It may appear to many that Charlotte has few
historical remnants still standing, and a confusing road network. Dig deeper, and
does have history, it is with us today in the paths and
names our roads take. This is owed to the fact that for the first 100
years of its existence, it was a small town with a population of ~3000, surrounded by neighboring communities and farms, often organized around
a church, with the roads of the day serving to connect them. As
Charlotte grew contiually and rapidly starting in the 1880s, in this environment, its roads were forced to work
with that backdrop, oriented on incremental evolution, rather than a
master plan like other cities such as New York. This leads to a large
number of historical easter eggs that are still here today. This map shows the major roads' ages.

if a road isn't on the map, it has not been dated. I will be dating roads over time and adding them.
